dream reception music

I'll admit that I've always dreamed of my favorite singer or band performing at my wedding reception. Of course the choices have changed over the years but right now I'd be happy with either Andrew McMahon (Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin) or Hanson. (Don't hate. Both are awesome.)

Can you imagine your favorite artist taking the stage for the biggest day of your life? Now I'm very excited about my dj but to see one of the above people take the stage at my reception would pretty much just make the wedding day that much more surprising.
This at my reception? I'll take it!

um heck yes!

Of course in this reception of my dreams, Andrew would be singing MFEO, Heroine, Spinning and all of my favorites. Hanson would be showing my family and friends I am not a nerd and getting everyone out on the dance floor (until they play mmmbop because surely I'd be the only one jumping up and down).

My djs (who I still think are totally awesome) are going to have a lot to deal with. :)

shoes

I got my wedding shoes on Tuesday. Do you want to see?

Are you ready for the stunners?!

(do you like the radiator??)

These shoes are my wedding shoes. Hello PERFECTION! (My shoes deserve the caps lock.) I love them. There are just no words. I even brought them into work with me on Tuesday because I couldn't let them sit in the car! Alone?! Not my shoes.

These shoes demand that I wear a shorter dress. Period.

am i getting ahead of myself?

I'm getting married in 9 months and 5 days. (Thanks knot wedding ticker!) That seems like forever... Ok, let's not get depressed here.

We have our church, reception venue (that I love!), photographer (who is super cool!) and we're about to sign a contract with a dj (who is also very cool!). I've made my way on to making appointments (from beginning to mid-June) with florists. Now, I don't think we'll make up our minds until the end of June on who we'll choose but something has keep coming up:

Are you getting ahead of yourself?

A vendor (florist who will not be named because she costs wayyy too much and wasn't too nice about it) said it sounds like I'm ahead of the game and Peachgroom asked if we were going to have our entire wedding planned 8 months before it happens.

I'm following the knot's checklist (online and in my neat-o wedding planner book) and according to it by July 5 I should have booked the photog, dj and florist as well as ordering my dress and registering for gifts. Now, I haven't even gotten all of those things done and I have until July to do those things. (Good thing too since I haven't even started shopping for a dress yet.) I think I'm moving along right on target. And bonus if I get everything done ahead of time so I can chill out the last few weeks and not freak out!

*thee* best dress

I came across a problem last weekend when I was trying my dresses on with my new bio-fit. The zipper on my dress wouldn't zip up. Normally a nightmare for girls because it means their dress doesn't fit anymore but for me, I just have a broken zipper on my hands. So that means, I have to go out and buy a new dress for the rehearsal or the wedding this weekend.

After our meeting with a dj (which will probably be the one we hire!) on Tuesday, we headed to the mall, much to PeachGroom's dismay. It turned out to be a bust but we did have a yummy dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. (I suggest you try the pineapple upside down cake cheesecake...yum!)

I went out again the next day to the mall near my work and just about had a breakdown. I headed to the prom dress section, which was all on sale and started grabbing anything. Anything. I saw this cantalope colored dress that had a bunch of ruffles and laughed. Of course I should try this crazy dress on!
Armed with about 6 dresses, I head to the dressing room. Dress after dress, I grew more and more disappointed. Until I put on the crazy cantaloupe ruffle dress.

Oh. My. God.

It looked so good! I don't go for anything like that at all. So of course, I bought it. I was so excited that I even showed it off when I went into work. One of my co-workers said "you are going to steal attention from the bride!" I don't think that's true but it *is* an awesome dress. My friend said I looked like Tinkerbell. PeachGroom thinks this should totally be the inspiration for my wedding dress. I've never felt this way about a dress before. It makes me very excited to go dress shopping. Anyone want to go?

productive

Yesterday was a productive wedding planning day. 2 meetings; one with the catering manager at our reception venue and one with our photographer! Yes, we have a photographer! I know we haven't made a lot of decisions yet but that one will probably be our hardest. Isn't it the hardest for everyone? Photography is the only thing you really have left of your wedding day. (Except that frozen top layer of your cake, which I don't think we're going to do...sounds gross.)

Our new catering manager seems nice and it totally sounds like she'll go the distance for us, which is a huge plus because we can't afford a wedding coordinator at this point really. I did mention Christmas lights under the tablecloth at the sweetheart table which made her tilt her head and this popped into my head:

"you mean you don't look up wedding porn to keep up to date?"

Thank God I didn't actually say that.

I think this wedding is going to be fun. There are so many ideas brewing right now and I can't wait to see how it all comes together. First I need to make sure it actually does come together...

dresses

So I've been trying to set up a date with my friends to go dress shopping. Right now it doesn't look like I'll be going to mid-June. I mean, I know that it's 9 months away from my wedding but I really want to start looking now. Why? I'm not so much of a dress girl. I'm the girl who pitched a fit while shopping for my communion dress. I used to tell my grandma that I was going to wear jeans to my wedding. Things have changed since age 8 for sure. I have a great love for a beautifully constructed dress. I love fashion. I just don't know how it's going to go for me while looking for a dress. Am I going to be one of those girls who tries on at least 100 dresses before I find the one that I want?

reception venue part 2

Yesterday PeachGroom called our venue to find out what was going on. Turns out that the person who told us he'd be in charge of our wedding doesn't work there anymore. Um, what? He didn't tell us that he was filling in for someone on maternity leave. And no one called us when the woman who is doing our wedding came back. I'm trusting you people with one of the biggest days of my life and giving you an insane amount of money...and you don't keep me in the know?

Needless to say I'm a little annoyed at the unprofessional way this was all handled. When I emailed her to ask if we could meet soon because I wanted to get to know her since she was doing the wedding and not who we originally thought, she didn't even apologize.

I know all of this might not matter in the grand scheme of things, but it makes me feel a little unsettled.

Reception venue

Today I passed our reception venue that I love. I love the building. I love the space. I love the sound of all the food.

I don't love our catering manager right now. I emailed him for a list of recommended djs.

I know that there are tons of things that could be going on such as vacation, family emergencies and it is wedding season. I just get the feeling like he's brushing us off as if we don't matter yet because we aren't getting married until March. That doesn't mean I don't need to know things now though. I'm talking to vendors, I'm planning. For example, they offer lighting at the hotel. Well, we were offered lighting through a dj this week. How can I compare to see what's the best for our wedding if you don't answer?? Ugh.
